Family History

Prattsville, Arkansas is home to Keesee Farms and the Keesee Family.  James and Mary along with
their son Steven and grandson Brent Keesee work together to farm nearly 400 acres while raising their
herd of cattle, predominantly Belgian Blue, a breed recognized as being lower in fat and cholesterol
than traditional beef.

The Keesee family has been farming for many generations, James Keesee began his farming career
early, and tended his first calf at age 12.  Around 1947, his 4-H corn crop was selected as best in the state,
raising the most per acre.  He also grew cotton and a variety of other vegetables and crops, while caring for
his hogs and cattle.  James' father, Henry Keesee owned the land which James owns today and he has
increased his acreage over the years.  He passed the love of cattle down to his son Steven and grandson
Brent.  James and his son Steven are currently members of Arkansas' Grant County Cattlemans Association
and the Belgian Blue Breeders, Inc.

Keesee Farms is proud to be associated with Ozark Belgian Blue Beef LLC and has supported them since
they began business in the late 90's.  The Keesee family purchased their first Belgian Blue in 1991, a Full
Blood Bull by the name of "Santos" (a large blue roan Bull in color) and used him to breed their commercial
herd.  Currently, they raise a Belgian Blue Registered herd and percentage commercial herd.
